A new year and I had made a promise to myself to try new things this year. So, I’m doing just that.
This month I am starting something new…it’s a photography project. Just a couple of weeks ago, the wonderful and talented photographer; Rowe Timson, suggested the idea of a small group of us starting up a new photography circle. I nervously enthusiastically committed to joining the 10 on 10 Photography Circle along with a bunch of lovely bloggers and fellow graduates of the Clever Cookie – School of Blog.
We will all post 10 photos on the 10th of every month, sharing our favourite 10 photos through a blog post and we will link up with one another to create a photography circle of all our posts with all our 10 photos. Sounds fun, yeah!? We all have different photography styles, all have different hobbies and all use different cameras. Some members of the group love taking action shots when they’re on a particular adventure so they would use a camera similar to those from DrDrone, and some use more traditional cameras to capture mother nature in all her glory. I use a variety of cameras to capture whatever makes me happy! No matter how we take our photos and what equipment we use, our pictures are always so unlike, making it a totally unique way to share what we’ve been up to.
Our little circle is being flexible {just the way I like it!} with our 10 on 10 Project, so we may share 10 photos from one whole day or we may just choose 10 of our favourite photos from the previous month. We may even share more than 10 photos at times…sometimes it’s hard to set limits on great photos. {Who knows what I’ll actually do each month! I’ve only just scrambled through this first month’s post!}
What I do know at this stage is; I want to challenge myself in learning new photography skills and putting them into action. I also want to share some of my everyday moments. You know, if I go on holidays I am like some crazed lunatic clicking and snapping photos every second of the day and night…but when I am at home, I don’t really think much about capturing the every day moments and sometimes they are the most precious moments and memories. So, I want to make a point of sharing the little things and the every day moments.
Another bonus of the project, I get to be apart of a blogging photography circle where we can be inspired and motivated from one another and share a little love around the blog-o-sphere. Hopefully you’ll find some new blogs to follow and get inspired to take some photos yourself too!
So, here we go folks.
On Sunday 8th February it was ‘Festival Sunday’ for the annual 9-day St.Kilda Festival. I’ve been going to St.Kilda Festival for years – it’s always a great day! A celebration of music and the arts, famed as Australia’s biggest single-day free music festival. It’s a Melbourne tradition and a great celebration of summer in Melbourne on the bay. Something I love about going every year is that I have gotten to see it grow and adapt over time. I remember when it was just a smaller festival and seeing it becoming bigger and better each year just isn’t something you can beat! Over the years I’ve seen more acts, better Visual Display Systems, bigger crowds, cooler attractions, a greater selection for food, the list goes on!
So, when the clouds parted and the sun came out to shine across the bay, I grabbed my big girl camera {my Nikon} and my new wide angle lens, {I call it new as I only got it last year and it has only been on one overseas adventure so far! So we’re still getting to know each other!}. I wandered out along the back streets and little alley-ways to find myself at the festival, and ready for some fun in the sun.
Amongst a crowd of over 400,000 people I {unconsciously} became the minimalist photographer. This is not my usual style but I think it was my way of enjoying the moment and blocking out the crowds.
My ten favourite photos of Festival Sunday @ St.Kilda Festival.
P.S. I’ve included some {bonus} candy-colour pop pics at the very end. So. Much. Fun! I’m totally inspired by Matt Crump of late.
I hope you enjoyed my very first 10 on 10 post and be sure to check out Jess’ photos over at A Little Part of the World {her photos are absolutely stunning…and so dreamy!} and continue to follow the links to complete the Photography Circle before you get all the way back to me again. I promise you’ll be in for a visual treat! Enjoy!

I LOVE St Kilda. I lived in Elwood for a couple of years and hung out in St Kilda as much as I could. I have grand plans to buy an apartment there – one day. These are fab photos. Such wonderful blue sky and I particularly like the Luna Park shot 🙂 x
indospired says
Hi Ellen! So glad you stopped by to check out my St.Kilda pics, especially as you are a past local resident of the area! You just gotta love St.Kilda don’t you?!;) I love living on the bay, love seeing the ocean every day. Oh, I love Elwood too, just that little bit quieter and I often walk along the beach to Elwood. And… I TOO dream of one day buying an apartment in the local area {with sea views of course!}
Thanks again! xxx
